Waynesboro Heritage Museum Marks a Digital Milestone

The Waynesboro Heritage Museum (where I serve on the board) recently went "live" with their online collections database using Past Perfect software. This is a huge accomplishment for our small museum and one which the museum is very proud of. Paying for, cataloging and photographing for a project like this is no small feat for an institution like ours. Up until this summer, WHF had only one paid employee and everything else was accomplished by volunteers, interns and paid vendors/contractors. On top of the day to day challenges of running a small, local museum, the City of Waynesboro cut the museum's funding by 85%. Needless to say, we were disappointed. Nonetheless, the staff and board persevered and finally met this goal that has been a dream of ours for several years now. There is also a new research station available to the public in the gift shop area. We've also hired a full-time curator and she is doing a fantastic job.
Please visit the online collection and see what local history has to offer! Please keep in mind that the vast majority of the collection has yet to be catalogued and uploaded, but we're off to a great start! More news to come soon . . .
