Old Bone
Knives, Relics & Rites of Passage

I bought this Buck knife for a grandson who's turning 13 next week. His father owns a hunting lodge in Canada. My grandson can skin a bear as well as any man 3 times his age so I wanted to reward his diligence with a worthy "rite of passage" gift. The backdrop for the photo is an O'Bryan Brothers duck cloth hunting vest, circa 1910. The O'Bryan Brothers were Confederate Veterans who purchased surplus canvas from the US Army and used it to manufacture men's hunting and work apparel. The company eventually evolved into the Duckhead Clothing Company. I'm currently writing an article about the O'Bryan Brothers for a national magazine.
